Garin College Community Garden

The Garin Vinnies have been busy in the Garin College Community Garden growing produce for people in need. We have just been able to afford a new shed for the garden and over the next little while, some of the Vinnies will be working with local artist, Pammie Moonlight, to turn this shed in to a visual masterpiece - watch this space!

Pride of Place Inspiring Stories Film

The Garin Vinnies have this year been involved in the national Inspiring Stories project where young people throughout the coutry have been putting together short films about young kiwis making a difference in their communities. Although the movies were to be only 2 - 4 minutes in duration, the Vinnies soon learned just how much filming and work goes into creating a film of this length. Unfortunately although they ran out of time in the end to polish off the editing of this film to the standard they would like, the film reflects the journey the Vinnies have been on during their involvement with the Pride of Place project.

Mosaics Go Up in the Community

On Thursday 8 September, the mosaics created by the Garin College and Saint Paul's Vinnies last term, went up in the community. There to video this happening were Garin Vinnies - Shevy Oakly and Alexei D'Ath. The mosaic project has been part of the Tasman District Council Pride of Place project addressing the issue of graffiti vandalism in the community. A number of different youth organisations have been involved in working towards getting youth art out in to the community in a positive way. For the Garin College and Saint Paul's Vinnies, the end result speaks for itself.

The Garin College Vinnies have almost completed their magnificent mosaic masterpieces. We hope to be able to put these up in the community early next term.
